JOAN ANDREA'S NEW BOOK ON SALE
Joan Andrea Hutchinson's newest offering "Kin Teet Kibba Heart Bun" records how Jamaicans from humble circumstances used their ingenuity to overcome the obstacle of a shallow pocket to live, love and raise children in dignity. Practices that have become the unseen foundation of what is making the country great today. In her words it is "Celebrating the creativity of jamaican 'poor' people.
Using the humour in the Jamaican language, Hutchinson authentically retells the pieces of the recent and not too recent past that, she says we are too busy now to hear from our grandmothers. I would add, the grandmothers are probably themselves out in the workplace and are too busy to tell.

January 2010 greeted us with some real cold temperatures, especially here in South Florida where temperatures fell as low as 32 degrees, Fahrenheit. This was one of those times when we could not call our friends up North and brag how we were running around in shorts and tees as they freeze their derrieres off.
While the cold may have had some of us hibernating for a few days, it was business as usual for us at De Riddim Box, as we were busy gathering timely information for our first issue of the new year. This month is off to a very rapid start with the Martin Luther King Holiday on January 18, we take time to remember and honor the civil rights leader.
January also brings the week-long Jamaica Jazz & Blues Festival in Jamaica, January 24 to 30, wrapping up with three nights at a new venue, Greenfield Stadium, Trelawny, just 10 minutes from Montego Bay. Air Jamaica is offering bargain rates from many U.S. cities so it is not too late to Get Up and Go.
We are very excited about a number of new projects we will be launching this year, along with some of our annual events which will be improved and more exciting. We will also partner with other companies to offer discounts and savings on a number of products and events.
Speaking of discounts, we are offering a five dollar discount to subscribers who purchase tickets to our Valentine's Variety show, Love is a Funny Little Thing, scheduled for Sunday, February 14 at the Miramar Cultural Center. See details below on how to access the discount offer online at www.miramarculturalcenter.org using the code LOVE. This offer expires on February 1, so get your discount tickets today.
As usual, the January issue of De Riddim Box is filled with information on upcoming events and flashbacks of happenings you may have missed. Forward to friends and family members so that they are informed about activities in South Florida's Caribbean Community.
Remember to tune in to Caribbean Riddims, every Saturday, on WZAB 880 AM for updated information, special give-aways and lots of music. You can also visit our website at www.caribbeanriddims.com.
