Posted: February 7, 2008 After three weeks off the air, the Caribbean programs formerly aired on WTPS 1080 AM on Saturdays will now be heard on WKAT 1360 AM beginning Saturday, November 10. This announcement was greeted with a sigh of relief and as good news to thousands who have developed a long and loyal relationship with the station formerly known as WVCG. For over twenty years, the broadcast trio of Don Daly, Mike Andrews and Eddy Edwards had continuously presented their programs on 1080 AM and had become household names, especially in Southwest Miami-Dade where the 50,000 watt station had a loyal following who would tune in for their weekly dose of Caribbean music, news, tid-bits and a chance to air their views on topical subjects. South Florida Caribbean Sports line with Everard Carter, Leon Francis and Oliver Solomon joined the Saturday line-up as the station expanded its Caribbean programs. In December 2007, 1080-AM WTPS was bought by California-based Salem Communications. Under the new ownership, the format was changed to an English-language Christian-talk format. The longest running Caribbean programming in South Florida had been impacted with the change in ownership. Not wanting to leave a void in the Caribbean community, negotiations were held, and after rescheduling several programs, Salem Communications was able to place the Caribbean programs on WKAT 1360 AM. “We are very happy to keep the team in place,” stated Don Daly, host of the Caribbean Upliftment program which leads off the Saturday programs. “It was important to be on a station that had the capability of reaching Southwest Miami-Dade...things worked out fine and we hope to have a long-lasting relationship with WKAT.” The new line-up of Caribbean programs on WKAT 1360 AM on Saturdays:
South Florida Caribbean Sports line will remain on 1080 AM from 7 to 9 pm on Saturdays. For more information contact Don Daly of CRI Communications at 305.255.9990. |
